You don’t often hear people talking about Sacramento as a destination city.
With so many superstar cities in California, Sacramento is often overlooked for her flashier sisters, but that time may be changing.
Sacramento has its share of cultural venues like the Crocker Art Museum and the Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park, along with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, the USL’s Sacramento Republic FC, and the PCL’s Sacramento River Cats. All of these are good reasons to go inland and pay a visit to the “City of Trees”. Now you can add fine dining at world-class restaurants as a reason to visit Sacramento.
Eat Your Way Through Sacramento
Sacramento is quickly becoming the place to go for foodies from all over the world. Sacramento is already in the center of the most abundant agricultural area in the United States, so it has easy access to more ingredients than other places, making them fresh and plentiful. Restaurants can rightfully boast that they are farm-to-table places without having a commercial food distribution truck parked out back.
Chefs in many of the restaurants in Sacramento develop relationships with farmer’s markets and growers, ensuring they get the best product for their dishes. Many other cities around the country get their food from the Sacramento area, the difference is that this food may have just been picked this morning. The chefs will customize their menus around what is in season or something they discover.
At your average Sacramento farmer’s market, you’ll find chefs and buyers elbow to elbow with people buying groceries for themselves. The produce and meat they buy now will be on a lucky diner’s plate later today. Because the restaurants buy directly from the growers, they can keep their prices down, without having to pay for a middleman, branding, and packaging. Another way that restaurants can keep their prices down is that rent in Sacramento is sometimes less by a third or more than other big cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
“It’s a phenomenal opportunity to be in Sacramento now.” –Sam Marvin, restaurateur
Not only are diners noticing what is going on in Sacramento, but so are world-class chefs from California and the rest of the world. They are interested in making their culinary artwork with fresh ingredients. Many restaurateurs are making plans to open their doors in Sacramento, as it is about to explode.
Some highly rated restaurants in Sacramento include The Kitchen Restaurant, The Firehouse, Biba, and Ella Dining Room & Bar. You really can’t go wrong with any place that serves fresh food in Sacramento.
In addition to fresh produce, caviar that is used in 5-star restaurants in Chicago and New York come from the Sacramento area, in addition to the grapes used in Napa Valley wines. Estimates show that 40% of the country’s fruit and 30% of the vegetables are grown in this area.
You should charter a bus from Carreras Tours with your foodie friends and hit some Sacramento restaurants before the word gets out. Contact Carreras Tours today to learn more about how your group can visit Sacramento before you’ll have to wait in line and pay exorbitant prices for your meal.
